My Views vs. The Average American's views
http://www.environmentreports.com/how-does-agriculture-change/#section2
After reading this article I found out that at times I have a different view then others. Agriculture is something that I have been raised around and on. I have never been against agriculture as a whole but I can agree with people that there are things that farmers do that simply just aren't right.
"Agriculture is responsible for about half of global methane emissions. Methane is 26 times stronger as a GHG than CO2. Ruminant livestock, including cows and sheep, digest their food through enteric fermentation, which produces methane. The result: Globally, about a third of agriculture’s methane emissions come from livestock. Burning biomass to prepare fields is another methane-maker, as is applying manure to fields."- from article stated above
This paragraph is straight out of the article that I read and I just want to post out some facts about it. If you didn't know the background knowledge you would think we are out here killing the environment. I agree with the fact that agriculture is producing most of the methane. But if you think about it we are running big machinery to not only produce crops ( food for you, and your family pets), but we are raising livestock and other things that the average American takes advantage of. I personally know a livestock sale barn that just got shut down for the excessive amount of methane being produced from the waste. In my point of view with the high technology that we have now days, why are we still struggling with this. I also think everyone should start having respect for the farmers. Without farmers you would not have food, clothes or that wonderful gas that you like to waste by driving around with you friends.
On average the rural American farmer uses 22-38 gallons of fuel on acres. That is not cheap. No farmer is coming rich off of feeding you. They do this as it is their passion and they want to help make your life just a little simpler.
I think American Agriculture needs to update and become more eco friendly but we also have to have the support of others and we also need those that are against agriculture to stand by us not against us. We need your support just as much as you need ours.
