How our trash impacts the environment - Austin Downs and Richard Acevedo
This article tells us about how plastic waste impacts our lives and the lives of animal species. First, they show us with some shocking numbers that we use way too much plastic and more importantly, we recycle way too little ( only 9 percent!). Plastic contains methane gas. If we burn used plastic instead of recycling it, it causes a huge increase in carbon dioxide, which is bad for the environment and increases global warmth. Plastic is also very bad for certain animal species. For example, see animals eat the plastic that we throw in the ocean and because they can’t digest all of the plastic, they will most certainly die… As of last, thanks to the increase in emissions, we will develop a lot of diseases such as asthma, cancer, birth defects , and much more.
I am really concerned about how we fail in recycling plastic. For example, when I went to Walmart, they only used plastic bags and they didn’t even fill the bags to the top. As a result, I had a lot of plastic bags for maybe five items. If these bags will not be recycled properly, which they probably won’t be, it will cause another big increase in global warmth. I feel really bad for the animal species whose ecosystems will be damaged and endangered because of us, but I am also scared for the diseases, such as cancer that will develop. My mother had cancer and I wish that nobody had to go through this process. So we all have to stand up!

Hello Yenne I thought your blog was very informative and gave some really good points on recycling it really shocked me when you said only 9% of plastic gets recycled. I also liked the personal experience you put in there as well about your trip to Walmart and all the wasted plastic bags.
