What is urban sprawl?

Urban sprawl means that some urban areas keep growing and hereby suburban areas are created. In the article, they give you some benefits of urban sprawl, for example, an economic and employment boost because these people need to buy food, household, etc., and of course, they need a job. However, urban sprawl has more negative effects than positive. It is bad for us, the humans because we use our vehicles more rather than a bicycle or going for a walk and therefore the risk of becoming obese will be higher when you live in a suburban area. Another negative effect for us will be racial and economic disparity, but most important: the environment suffers the most. Because we use more vehicles, the air will be more polluted which leads to lung problems and smog. If there are more people, they need water to drink and to shower which will lead to water overconsumption. Another negative effect is that the more we keep building houses the more animal species will become extinct because we use their habitat to build on.

Urban Sprawl: Definition, Causes, and Solutions

I think that we need to use more commute transport. When I walked the first time on the streets in Fayette, I noticed that there were no bus stops are any other opportunity to use commute transport. I think that this needs to change. By using more commute transport, the air will be less polluted and we and the animals won’t have lung problems anymore. I also think that it might be better to build more apartments rather than one house for one family. This way, we destroy less of the natural habitat of animal species and you get a lot of neighbors too!
