Blog 4 Conservation/extinction Natasha Provinse
In this blog post I want to continue to talk about the issue of losing very important parts of nature. As I have stated before extinction of species is a very serious problem that we can no longer afford to ignore.
In 2018 as you might remember we lost the last male northern white rhino, the species was being attacked by poachers that eventual led to its demise. This is just one example that happened to get media attention and might have sparked some curiosity in our world. with this said, the future of our beloved animals does not look much brighter. With climate change increasingly getting more detrimental we will see the downfall of many other species; “The impacts of climate change aren’t showing signs of slowing, and this administration refuses to recognize it,” says Charise Johnson of the Union of Concerned Scientists. “Water temperatures are rising, increased flooding, deforestation, fires, storms—these are all things that affect a species’ existence.” this is going to result in the loss of species numbers, and with that increases the threat of wildlife poachers. With species becoming more rare this gives incentive for poachers to hunt and kill these animals, giving them no chance to survive with both nature and humanity against them.
There is hope. There are many people in powerful positions aware of the issues at hand and with the voice of the people growing on this matter, they are taking strides to try and amend the issues of extinction in any way they can. according to the U.S. Senate Committee on Environment and Public works," The ACE Act passed the Senate unanimously on January 9, 2020. The legislation has received broad support from the Wyoming Game and Fish Department, the Wyoming Stock Growers Association, Ducks Unlimited, National Wildlife Federation, and many others." hopefully this act has an impact that will spark change in the world.

these are a few of the various species that will see the benefit of this act as years come.

ReplyDeleteNice work on the blog. I think you did a really good job connecting the images you used to the information you had in your blog that was important. I think the issue of conservation is a large one and I think its very important to help endangered species to not become extinct. So I’m glad you chose this topic to write your blog about. Well done.
