New Agriculture Production

New Agriculture Production by Connor Sullivan

Farming and agriculture have remained the same for awhile now, doing the same techniques but as we are in the the twentieth century there have become new ways to harvest and plant using new technology and different ways to harvest. The one I want to talk about is vertical farming by a company called Babylon and there article "The Future of Environmental Sustainability in Agriculture"

Vertical Farming uses indoor spaces to grow crops. Instead of the crops being alongside one another, herbs and vegetables grow vertically to conserve space. There are many benefits to vertical farming like lower carbon emissions due to restaurants cutting the transport between foods when they can grow in the building, reduced water consumption do to the availability to recycle the water, year round crop production because the plants our monitored in a safe environment, there are so many possibilities with vertical farming which I think is the next step for the future of agriculture.

  1. Great picture. And this shift in ag is a cool idea. Don't know if it can scale up to feed us, but nice to have these options. And we'll need this sort of tech when we finally go to Mars.

  3. I really like this topic. We throw way too much food away and if we continue this, there will be no food left at a certain time. Some people in third world countries, like Congo, are struggling now already with food. I think that vertical farming will be a good solution to this increasing problem. But I also think that if we start with simply reducing our food portions, it will help a lot. What do you think about this?

  4. I find this topic really interesting and am invested to learn more about this new technology. Personally, I think as the years go by there will be other inventions on how to grow plants faster and healthier. I've personally seen farmers use the vertical method when growing crops and it is true that it conserves space. What other ways can we improve agriculture ?
