Fusion Energy and how it works

What is fusion you may ask?

According to the department of energy, it's the energy source of the sun and stars. Scientists think that this type of energy could provide an unlimited amount of non carbon energy to power everything on earth. That is insane!

How does it work you may also ask?

"Fusion is a nuclear reaction that occurs when two light nuclei smash together and fuse to create a heavier nucleus-- releasing energy in the process" (Scientists from the department of energy, P.g 1).

According to the department of energy, fusion is still a relatively new form of energy. Scientists are still trying to figure out how to harness a "self-sustaining plasma" that produces more energy than what is needed to create it. Plasma is one of the four states of matter, and is used for fusion.

The department of energy states, "in a fusion power plant, the plasma's thermal energy would heat water, create steam and spin a turbine to generate electricity."

The department of energy also goes on to say, "unlike traditional power plants, the fuel never runs out."

I personally believe that fusion is the future of energy.

That's all I have to say for this week. Next week I'll discuss and share the benefits and disadvantages that fusion has. I just wanted to summarize what Fusion was and how it works to build a foundation.

  1. Overall great job me personally I did not know much about fusion energy let alone its importance. When you spoke about how the department of energy also goes on to say, "unlike traditional power plants, the fuel never runs out." makes me wonder how that is possible and if scientist stick with this how much new information will we get out of it? Great job and I love the pictures that helped to give a visual.
