Deforestation - Yenne Schepers

Deforestation: one of the many environmental issues

This article is from National Geographic where they explain deforestation. They don’t give you only chocking numbers for example, in 26 years, we lost 502,000 square miles of forests, but they also explain what deforestation is, why it happens, and what we can do to stop it.

 ' /Norway Just Banned Deforestation

Deforestation simply means that a lot of trees or being felled by humans because we need the wood for agriculture activities, mining and for daily products that we buy in the supermarket, for example, the palm oil of the trees is used in shampoos. Unintentional activities, such as wildfires can also happen. National Geographic says that trees are not only important for us, for example, they absorb carbon dioxide and turn it into oxygen, but also for a lot of animal species. They also say that some organizations are trying to slow down climate change. For example, Topher White used recycled cell phones for monitoring chainsaws. Overall, the article is made to make you aware of deforestation and what the consequences are.

After I read the article, I was shocked. Not only by the numbers that were given but also by what will happen if we will run out of trees. If the trees can’t change carbon dioxide in oxygen anymore, we just simply can’t breathe anymore. The animals, plants, and we need oxygen in our lives. This made me a little bit scared, to be honest. Also, if the carbon dioxide level keeps increasing, global warmth will keep increasing, which causes natural disasters, such as overflowing and many more. Another important thing, thanks to deforestation, a lot of animal species don’t have a place to live anymore so they will extinct. I am an animal lover and this breaks my heart. I like the fact that some organizations and scientists are trying to stop global warmth with their smart ideas. I hope that more people will read this article and become aware of the current situation we’re living in. Maybe some people will stand up and invent more ways to stop deforestation and climate change.
