Conservation/Extinction Natasha Provinse

Today I will be discussing the topic of Conservation and Extinction. In this post, I will be focusing on the extinction crisis because it stands out to me. Personally, I already have some knowledge about this topic as I am an active supporter of Greenpeace and I donate money to the organization on a monthly basis. If you weren't aware our planet is facing a crisis of extinction and it is predicted by the scientists of the biological diversity organization that approximately 1 million species are on track for extinction in the coming decades. Not only is the extinction of a species an emotional event, but it is also detrimental to the very ecosystem that we inhabit. We are connected to the world, we may often forget this in our modernized world, but the wild is a very emotional, historical, and spiritual place that we are intertwined with. Wildlife is the inspiration for so many important things, such as our history, mythology, languages, and our perception of life itself. So to say we have an emotional connection with wildlife is an understatement. According to the Center for Biological Diversity, amphibians are at the highest risk of extinction today

according to the Center for Biological Diversity, "Frogs, toads, and salamanders are disappearing because of habitat loss, water and air pollution, climate change, ultraviolet light exposure, introduced exotic species, and disease."

  1. Natasha, overall great job you provided a lot of new information about extinction that I had not found in my research. One thing that really stood out to me was when you said how 1 million species are on track for extinction. That is a huge and very alarming number and I wish if people knew this they would take more action to save them.

  2. I like your note that the creatures of the wild figure into our myth and stories!
